.500With Tom Grater's passing, Ephrata loses one of its best friends. Thomas P. Grater, who touched three generations of Ephrata youth with his leadership and enthusiasm, died Sunday, July 12, at the age of 69, following an illness of six months. A sign outside the Ephrata Recreation Center just says "Thanks Tom."

.500A-town Community Pool re-opening. The newly renovated Adamstown Community Pool will celebrate its grand re-opening on July 18. the pool went through $500,000 in renovations which included a new handicap ramp, filter building, and diving board.

They were formerly the Muddy Creek charge which now includes Swamp and Muddy Creek congregations. Elected officers of the charge: Charles M. Hertz, vice president; S. L. Wissler, secretary; and William B. White, treasurer.

.500Miss Mildred Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Miller, Sunset Avenue, was elected teacher of grades 5 and 6 of the Franklin Street School. She will teach one year in place of Miss Kathryn Horning on leave of absence.

.500 Edward Leisey, Randolph, Neb., 93, a Civil War veteran, visited friends in Denver. He is a native of East Cocalico township and has lived in the mid-west for 47 years.

.500Miss Beulah Rudy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phares Rudy, was named secretary in the office of Arthur P. Mylin, county superintendent of schools.

.500Prof. J. R. Stewart of Maryland, was named instructor in the agricultural and shop department of East Cocalico Vocational School, succeeding Prof. R. E. Sleppy. Prof. Sleppy has accepted a similar post at Jonestown.

.500On Monday afternoon between 5 and 6:30, a party of a thousand or more soldiers passed through this borough on their way to the port of embarkation for France. The soldiers camped for the night on the H. G. Metzer farm, near Mohler's school house.

.500Jacob E. Eichelberger, of Murrell, on Wednesday of last week, brought a fine new Paige automobile from Philadelphia, which he turned over to the purchaser, Jere R. Becker of Murrell, making the trip all the way from Philadelphia in high gear.

.500Lizzie Stober, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Stober, of Stober's Mill, Clay Township, died Wednesday evening at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lancaster from tetanus or lockjaw, caused by a splinter lodged in her lower limb.

.500Robert C. Floyd opened a confectionery at the Mountain Springs summer resort on Monday.
