EPHRATA - The Eicher Arts Center will host the Chopped Liver River Band Sunday, May
18 at 2 p.m. for a free concert.
The Chopped Liver River Band
performs a variety of Jewish music which includes Klezmer music, Yiddish
songs, Jewish show tunes, bug band and light jazz with touches of comedy
along the way.
The 13-member music ensemble is affiliated with with
congregation Shaari Shomayim, of Lancaster, the fourth oldest Jewish
community in North America.
The group has performed all over
southeast Pennsylvania, including the Fulton Opera House, Longwood Gardens,
and the Harrisburg Arts Fest.
Characterized by expressive melodies,
Klezmer music originated in the Jewish communities of eastern Europe and
was abandoned by the Americanized immigrants. Later a renewed interest in
this style of music resurfaced when generations of Americans set out to
search their roots.
The comeback was inspired by the same 1960s
self-expression movement which revived bluegrass, old-time swing, folk,
soul and other vanishing styles.
The Eicher Arts Center is located
on Cocalico Street in Ephrata Grater Park, adjacent to the American Lion
and the Ephrata Playhouse in the Park on the banks of the Cocalico
Creek.
The Eicher House and grounds are available for private
parties, business meetings, wedding reception and public gatherings. For
more information, call 738-3084.
