Relay for Life fundraiser

The "Hunting For A Cure" Quoit Tournament fundraising event will take place Saturday, May 3, starting at 10 a.m. Registration: $20 per person, includes lunch and refreshments. Double elimination, male/female teams only. For more information call Beth Witmer at 336-6455.

On June 20-21, Relay for Life will be held, starting with a survivior's lap at 6 p.m. The track will be lit up at 9 p.m. for the luminaria ceremony. Bring a team or call and you will be put on a team! Bon View Park dedication

The Bon View Linear Park grand opening and dedication ceremony will take place Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. The park is now open to the community. Residents are invited to take a tour through the facility.

The park includes a series of handicap accessible, grass and wood chip trials, a native tree arboretum, a wetland habitat area, vernal ponds, an outdoor environmental education area and a collection of picnic tables and benches. The park is the result of a collaborative planning, funding and construction effort in the borough between representatives from the borough, the recreation board, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNA), the Denver Shade Tree Commission and various Eagle scouts in the Cocalico community.

DVGRR free seminar

Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will host a free seminar for those who are considering adopting a dog rescued from a puppy mill on Saturday, May 3, from 1-3 p.m. at its Golden Gateway facility in Reinholds. DVGRR is a non-profit organization dedicated to new beginnings for displaced Golden Retrievers.

The seminar will be conducted by Donna Baker, DVGRR's Adoption Manager and Chris Shaughness, CBC, president of Pet Therapy Services. The seminar is free and open to all families and individuals interested in adopting breeder dogs. Register by contacting office@dvgrr.org or by calling (717) 484-4799.

Note that in order to adopt a breeder dog from DVGRR, you must have a physical (not electric) fence around your yard and have at least one other dog at home.

Golden Gateway is located at 60 Vera Cruz Road, Reinholds, just off Route 897. Youth

Conservation School   

The Lancaster County Conservation District along with Local Sportsmen's Clubs offers a week-long summer adventure for teen's ages 14-16 interested in outdoor activities and conservation of our natural resources.

YCS is a resident school program where student sleep on cots in tents, held at the Northern Lancaster County Fish and Game Protection Association in West Cocalico Township, July 20-26. This year the school celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Students benefit from generous County Federated Sportmens Clubs and Community Organizations who provide 90 percent of the YCS tuition. Students are responsible for a $25 registration fee. To receive an application, phone 299-5361 x.5 by June 1.
