Highland Elementary’s birdwatchers
EPHRATA, PA
- As part of The Highland Habitat for Discovery, students in fifth grade have been taking part in a winter bird-feeding project at Highland Elementary School. Under the guidance of fifth grade teacher Mr. Adrian Shelley and art teacher Mrs. Donna Fogle, the students have created a bird-feeding observation station at the back entrance of the school to conduct daily observations that assist them in a variety of academic activities. “We’ve used the observations for reading activities, graphing in math, investigating the scientific process, and for several writing projects, including a persuasive writing piece that required the students to ask local birdseed companies for donations,” commented Mr. Shelley.
