A ‘sinking’ situation
By: GARY P. KLINGER Review Correspondent, Staff Writer
Ephrata Township Supervisors continue to be flooded with questions about the storm water management system at the Charity Gardens Development.
For the second time in the past several months, representatives from the development’s homeowners association were present at a board of supervisors meeting seeking any help from the township in compelling the developer, Gene Martin, to give the association $50,000 to be held in a fund especially established for the maintenance and repair of the flood basin.
At the crux of the matter is a controversy over what Martin did or did not already contribute to the fund and what obligation, if any, the township has in resolving the conflict. Residents contend Martin never met the obligation. Township officials hold the point of view that their requirement of Martin establishing the fund was above the call of duty but not something they can enforce.
Through a letter from his attorney, Martin claims the obligation was already met and that he had already paid to make certain repairs to the system prior to the point at which he and his family turned control of the homeowners association over to property owner. Yet, per the requests from the township, he has yet to supply any documentation to support either his contribution or his repair work. Neither Martin nor his representatives have been at any of the township meetings to offer any further information.

More security changes being proposed at EASD Visitor policies, access points reviewed and enhanced; second officer considered
By: GARY P. KLINGER Review Correspondent, Staff Writer
A letter will soon be going out to parents of Ephrata Area School District students highlighting not only current security measures in place on a daily basis, but new procedures and policies being considered to take safety to another level.
On Monday night at the regular meeting of the Ephrata School Board, assistant superintendent Kimberly Schlemmer pointed out that the only commonality between all cases of school violence is that no one ever thinks it can happen where they live. Nonetheless, she detailed efforts which had already been commonplace through out Ephrata schools, as well as new efforts being taken since the most recent tragedy at Sandy Hook.
Updating members of the school board, Schlemmer was joined by Ephrata’s School Resource Officer (SRO), Pete Sheppard.
Schlemmer made it clear that school safety is the responsibility of every student and employee of the district to assure all possible measures are consistently followed to prevent a number of different hazards. Having and SRO is a huge first step, but Schlemmer pointed out the input and help the district had received from Ephrata Police Chief William Harvey, IU 13, and even the district attorney’s office.

Eidemiller caps career with 1-2 performance at Districts

Admittedly, Riley Eidemiller was a bit wide-eyed when he strolled out onto the mat in Hersheypark Arena last Friday afternoon.
Making his first trip to the District Three Meet, either as a competitor or a fan, Eidemiller, had no idea of the atmosphere or the quality level of competition he was about to face.
The Ephrata senior soon learned, and although he held his own and won his first bout, saw his season come to a close with a pair of losses late Friday night.
"It was pretty sweet and a really great experience," Eidemiller said, looking back on his first District experience. "I really didn’t expect it to be like that at all. The competition was pretty tough, that’s for sure."
Eidemiller (29-9), hampered by an ankle injury suffered late in the regular season after missing the last two post-seasons because of ailments, started off the tournament with an impressive 10-7 victory over West York sophomore Noah Townsley.
