* Overall Winner In the lone contested local race for Cocalico School District voters, Republican Mindy Fee was elected to take over the 37th District seat in the State House of Representatives.
Rep. Tom Creighton decided against running for reelection earlier this year, opening the door for a General Election race between Fee and Democrat Russell Stahley, both residents of Manheim.
Cocalico voters put their overwhelming support behind Fee — 6,455 votes to Stahley’s 2,544.
Creighton will finish out his last term and Fee will take over in January.
Of course, the presidential race got top billing Tuesday and helped draw record crowds to local polling sites. As expected, Republican Mitt Romney dominated in Cocalico despite the national outcome. He received 6,337 votes to President Barack Obama’s 2,673.
Cocalico also like Republicans Tom Smith (U.S. Senate), David Freed (Attorney General), John Maher (Auditor General), and Diana Irey Vaughan (Treasurer), even though their Democratic opponents won the election.
The Cocalico majority did, however, contribute to the reelection of Congressman Joe Pitts, who tripled the number of votes received by Democratic challenger Aryanna Strader.
