David Sturtevant, 70, football coach, school board member, dies
David A. Sturtevant, 70, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Lebanon VA Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Medford, Mass., to the late George and Lois (Kent) Sturtevant and was the stepson of the late Josephine Sturtevant. He was the husband of Claire E. (Kilhefner) Sturtevant, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.
David was a graduate of Winchester High School class of 1959. David worked in sales for the leather and shoe industry throughout his career and was a lifetime member of the Two-Ten Shoe Foundation. During his younger years, David played football for the Lebanon Rams semi-pro team and softball for various local teams. He enjoyed actively volunteering in the Ephrata community; he coached Ephrata Midget Football for 12 years and served on the Ephrata Area School District board. He was also a leader in a number of sports booster clubs throughout the years. Before his illness, David also enjoyed playing golf and cards. Most recently, the thing he most loved to do was spend time with his grandchildren and attend their activities; he was a wonderful and devoted "Pa" to them.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by a daughter: Kellie L., wife of Linn Ludwig, of Ephrata; son: Douglas A., husband of Lenora (Bunch) Sturtevant, of Reamstown; five grandchildren: Allison, Brooke, Carly, Aidan and Caleb; and three siblings: Jacqueline, wife of Henry Dellicker, of Holliston, Mass.; Phyllis Sturtevant, of Manchester, Mass.; and Alan Hodge, of Tewksbury, Mass.
A visitation will be held Sept. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s honor may be made to Ephrata and Cocalico area sports programs.
