Donald Woods, 67, Civil War buff, Valley Forge grad
Donald L. Woods, 67, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at his residence in Reading.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late W. Lester and Betty O. (Stork) Woods.
Donald was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and Albright College. A long time resident of Adamstown, he was a history buff and enjoyed visiting historical sites. He was considered an expert in Civil War weaponry.
Don is survived by a brother: William (Bill); his wife: Barbara Woods; and nephews and nieces.
Inurnment will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, at the request of the deceased.

Weaver Martin, 86, egg farmer, avid bird watcher
Weaver W. Martin, 86, of Reinholds, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Adamstown, he was the son of the late Aaron H. and Alice G. (Weber) Martin. He was married 63 years on April 2 to Kathryn M. (Weaver) Martin.
Weaver worked as a farmer and a skilled carpenter most of his life. In retirement he continued to farm, raising and selling eggs and many kinds of fruits and vegetables. He was an avid bird watcher, building and maintaining blue bird houses along the farm fence rows and neighboring properties. His creativity and love for nature will continue to live on in his children and grandchildren, not only in the hand-crafted gifts he made for them, but also in the many interests they share with him. He was a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, created bulletin covers and occasionally did chalk drawings for Sunday evening services. He also served as a trustee and a member of the cemetery committee.

Brenda Stephens, 58, Zinn’s, Park Place diner waitress
Brenda Faye (Carles) Stephens, 58, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Ephrata Community Hospital after a long fight with various illnesses. She never gave up and was ready to go to her Lord.
Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Esta (Summers) Carles and was the wife of the late Richard W. Stephens Jr., who passed away in 2008.
A member of First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, Brenda lived for her kids and grandkids and loved going shopping. She was a graduate of Cocalico High School and had worked as a waitress for Zinn’s Diner and Park Place.
Brenda is survived by a son: Dustin Stover, of Lancaster; a daughter: Lenette, wife of Jesse Althouse, of Ephrata; and three grandchildren: Kayde, Alise and Kendra Althouse.
Funeral services were held on May 21 at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Craig Snow officiating. Interment was held at Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brenda’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Paul Stauffer, 85, farmer
Paul Z. Stauffer, 85 years, of Port Trevorton, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Sunbury Community Hospital, Sunbury.
He was born on June 16, 1926 in Ephrata, a son of the late Ammon W. and Barbara (Zimmerman) Stauffer. He was the husband of the late Louella S. Stauffer, who preceded him on Sept. 6, 2009.
Paul was a member of the Stauffer Mennonite Church at Riverview, Liverpool. He was a farmer for many years and a part-time carpenter in his younger days.
Paul is survived by three daughters: Janice E., wife of Marcus M. Stauffer, of Port Trevorton; Florence E. Stauffer, of Port Trevorton; and Yvonne M., wife of Warren S. Martin, of Ephrata; a son: Peter P. Stauffer, at home; nine step-grandchildren; 11 step- great-grandchildren; three brothers: Marvin, husband of Elsie Stauffer, of Elkhorn, Ky.; David, husband of Grace Stauffer; and Ammon, husband of Anna Stauffer, all of Mechanicsville, Md.; three sisters: Amelia, wife of Noah Wenger, and Anne, wife of Robert Zimmerman, all of Elkhorn, Ky.; and Mabel, wife of Irvin Stauffer, of Carlisle; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded by a son: James E. Stauffer; a step-grandson; a brother: Monroe Stauffer; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Elizabeth and David Brubacher; and Kathryn and Walter Martin.

Michael Shinglock, machinist
Michael L. Shinglock, 59, of East Petersburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, May 17, 2012.
He was born in Hazleton to the late George and Elsie (Searfoss) Shinglock and married to Patricia (Grohman) Shinglock for 34 years.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren: Kailey, Douglas, Nicholas and Michael. He was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed fly fishing and mountain biking along the Lehigh River. He was employed as a machinist at FLSmidth in Manheim.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by two daughters: Carina, wife of Douglas Musick, of Hanover; and Elyse Shinglock, of East Petersburg. He is also survived by one brother, one sister and multiple nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on May 22 at Living Hope Community Church in Lancaster. Pastor Ron Ressler officiated. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
