Kenneth Moyer, Korean War veteran, HR manager
Ken Moyer, 78, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in Harrisburg Hospital.
The son of Harold E. and Nora H. Moyer, he was born April 11, 1933 in Lancaster.
He was a retired human resource manager for the U.S. Army Civil Service, an Army Korean War veteran, a graduate of Denver High School, Denver, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Carlisle. He was a member of the Cumberland Star Lodge No. 197, Carlisle, and 32nd degree mason of Harrisburg Consistory. He was also a member of the Carlisle Elks Lodge 578, the Moose Lodge 761, the Carlisle American Legion, Post 101 and a life member of the VFW, Carlisle Post 477. Ken was also a member of the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course and the Carlisle Beagle Club.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years: Edith L. (Petery) Moyer; his son: Colonel Michael K., husband of Elizabeth Moyer, of Milford, Mass.; his daughter: Lisa Moyer, wife of Ken Barto, of Pottstown; and his sister: Gloria M. Holman, of Somerset, N.H. Ken was a very involved and loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Brandy M. (Moyer) Cafarella, of Boonton, N.J.; Samantha B. Moyer, of Woodbridge, Va.; and Kory M. Barto and Rikki M. Barto, of Pottstown; and one great-granddaughter: Katelyn J. Cafarella, of Boonton, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Eugene H. Moyer, of Lincoln; and Warre n(Dick) Moyer, of Macungie.
A memorial service was held March 26 at the First United Church of Christ, Carlisle. The Rev. Lynn R. Schultz presided and was assisted by the Rev. Dr. Donald E. Moyer.
