Anthony Golas, NH civic leader, vet, textile mngr.
Anthony G. "Tony" Golas, 86, of Hinkletown, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at Masonic Village.
His wife of 54 years, Ruth C. (Collins) Golas, survives.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Peter and Blanche (Likowski) Golas.
Tony spent 50 years working in the textile industry as textile manager/supervisor of the weave room at the former Frank Ix & Sons Silk Mill and later as superintendent of Weaving for the Keystone Weave Corp. of Lebanon. He served in the Marines during World War II in the Pacific, squadron VMF -311, attaining the rank of corporal and was a member of the Charles Ludwig Post 7362 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Conestoga Post 662, New Holland. Additionally, he was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ and was twice president of its 9:15 class; was a scoutmaster in Blue Ball; a lifetime member of the Garden Spot Lions Club where he served two terms as president; a 32nd Degree Mason at the Ephrata Lodge #665, F & AM; the Lancaster Consistory, the Reading Consistory and the Rajah Shrine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Tina, wife of Raiford Stout, of Lancaster; two grandchildren: Bradley and Michael; a sister: Aldonia Caliendo, Nanty Glo; and sister-in-law: Pauline Collins, New Holland.
He was preceded in death by sisters: Josephine Jenkins and Constance Zaffarino; and brothers: Ben, Joe and George Bush.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Jean Christman-Davis officiating.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Ben Franklin 2 at the Masonic Health Center for taking care of Tony with such love and compassion.
