Deaths of local interest
Andrew J. Glassmyer, 21, of Lititz, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at his residence. A graduate of Warwick High School, he attended Albright College, enjoyed baseball and was an avid Phillies fan. He worked at Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) and was earlier employed at the Giant Food Store in Lititz. His sisters, Jess and Jo-Ann, live in Akron.
Arlene M. Boyer, 80, of Mountville, passed away at home Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was a cashier, having worked at various grocery stores for 46 years, and retired from the Giant at Stonemill Plaza in 2000. Her daughter, Jolene, wife of Kevin Nauman, lives in Ephrata.
Nancy Jane Diem, 53, of Myerstown, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 in her home. Nancy was a member of the Mt. Aetna Bible Church. She was a loving wife and mother. Her sister, Marjorie, wife of Edwin Zimmerman, lives in Ephrata.
Florence M. Schmidt, 96, of Lancaster, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster. Florence worked as a postal clerk in Ringtown. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing and doing needlework most of her life. Her daughter-in-law, Chloe Schmidt, lives in Ephrata.
Doris M. Stum, 72, of Mount Joy, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy facility. A homemaker, Doris was also employed by Conestoga View in Lancaster for 13 years, retiring in 2004. Previously she cleaned area businesses for many years. Her brother, Clarence, husband of Glenda Wolf Gantz, lives in Denver.
Anna M. Burkholder, 71, of Memphis, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 22, at her home. Her sister, Amelia, wife of Arthur Weaver, lives in Ephrata.
Albert Morrell, 89, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011. He served three years in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. After a 37-year career at RCA, he consulted for several years in Europe for the Thompson Company. Albert was also the co-author of an early book on color tube design and wrote shorter articles for several technical publications. His son, William, husband of Julie Morrell, lives in Ephrata.
