Hettie Sensenig, homemaker, had 100 grandchildren

Hettie M. Sensenig, 76, of Ephrata, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was under the care of Hospice.

Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Daniel W. Martin and Mary B. Martin. She was the wife of Ivan Z. Sensenig, who died April 20, 2004.

A homemaker, she was a member of Martindale Old Order Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

She is survived by six sons: Allen M., husband of Mary M. (Burkholder) Sensenig, of Dundee, N.Y.; Daniel M. Sensenig, of Ephrata, with whom she resided; Reuben M., husband of Elsie M. (Hurst) Sensenig, of Platteville, Wis.; Eli M., husband of Martha B. (Nolt) Sensenig, of Owen, Wis.; Earl M., husband of Amy S. (Zimmerman) Sensenig, of Ephrata; and Elvin M., husband of Susan W. (Martin) Sensenig, of Ephrata.

She is also survived by eight daughters: Alta M., wife of Marlin M. Martin, of Penn Yan, N.Y.; Mary M., wife of Titus H. Martin, of New Holland; Anna M., wife of Ivan N. Stauffer, of New Holland; Mabel M., wife of Martin L. Hoover, and Esther M., wife of Aaron N. Newswanger Jr., all of Curtiss, Wis.; Susanna M., wife of Reuben M. Wenger, of Dundee, N.Y.; Elsie M., wife of Stephen S. Brubacher, of Lancaster, Wis.; and Arlene M., wife of Eugene W. Hoover, of Stevens; 100 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: George M., husband of Anna S. Martin, of Freeburg; and Henry M., husband of Elizabeth Z. Shirk, of New Holland; and two sisters: Annie M., widow of Norman S. Martin, of Selinsgrove; and Katie M., widow of Walter M. Martin, of New Holland.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons: Samuel Martin, who died Jan. 18, 1990; and Merlyn Sensenig, who was stillborn July 7, 2011.

Her funeral was held on Aug. 29 at her late home with further services at Martindale Mennonite Church. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery.
