Final plea for EHS Post Prom volunteers
The Ephrata High School Post Prom Committee is getting ready for the big event, which is being held on May 28 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on May 29. The community is invited to come to an open house in the school cafeteria on May 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and see what Post Prom is all about.
This safe, fun-filled gathering for students after the prom is a huge event, and therefore many volunteers are needed. Volunteer opportunities include:
Set up on May 27 from 4 to 11 p.m. and May 28 from 7 a.m. until finished, approximately 2 p.m. These volunteers may just show up at any time and stay as long as they can; no need to sign up for a specific time. They will be assigned an activity when they get there. No specific skills are needed.
Open house. Volunteers are needed to give tours and answer questions. A special guided tour also will be given to all businesses and individuals who have donated to the Post Prom.
Night of event. Volunteers are needed to man stations like coat check, the "bank" and checkout, especially for the 3 to 5 a.m. time slots. These volunteers must be registered for a specific job.

Kachel appointed prior to primary win Ted Kachel
The school board also voted to appoint Ephrata resident Ted Kachel to replace former board member Allyson Snyder, who resigned for medical reasons at last month’s meeting.
Kachel, who resides in Ephrata with his wife Beth and three children Lauren, Abby and Denton, has been active in the school district as a classroom volunteer and field trip chaperone. He has also been active in the community as a youth soccer coach and with his church Bible School program. Employed by Hurst Produce in Ephrata, Kachel received one vote less than a unanimous vote. He will fill the remaining term of Snyder and the appointment will expire on Nov. 30.
Board member Kay Kurtz declined to vote. Prior to vote taking Kurtz said that she had nothing against Kachel personally, but questioned the timing of appointing him tonight when he is on the ballot tomorrow. She said she felt it was unfair to the other candidates.
Both Kurtz and Kachel were among the top five vote-getters of those running for a four-year term on school board. Judy Beiler, and new comers Tim Stauffer and Chris Weber were the other top vote-getters while incumbent Marty Harmes, who was not endorsed by the GOP, did not make the top five. Cocalico girls fall to Comets in overtime
Cocalico will have to wait one more day to officially begin District play.
Mother Nature forced the extra wait after Tuesday’s scheduled District opener vs. Exeter was washed out. The game, which was originally scheduled to be a home game for the Lady Eagles (15-3), will now be played on the turf at Warwick this afternoon (Wednesday) at 4 p.m.
The winner of Wednesday’s game with Exeter (12-4) will advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals to be played at Cumberland Valley, beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday’s winner will face the first-round survivor between second-seeded Kennard-Dale (16-1) and Susquehannock (9-7).
Cocalico will have had exactly one week to regroup from its heart-breaking 19-18 overtime loss to Penn Manor last Wednesday in the L-L League semifinals at Warwick.
In that exciting contest, Cocalico trailed big early (9-2) before storming all the way back to force overtime. Unfortunately, the Comets struck quickly in the extra session as Alicia Burns fed Emily Eddowes in front, and the junior deposited it behind Cocalico goalie Allie Stauffer for the game-winner 56 seconds into OT.
Burns scored five goals to pace the Comets while Maddie Hess notched four scores for the winners.
