The Cocalico Middle School is proud to announce the performances of this year s production of The Mouse That Roared this weekend. The show will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in the school s auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The Mouse That Roared is a comedy set in the microscopic country of Fenwick during the colorful 1960s. As the reigning Duchess of Fenwick, Gloriana s unique solution to the near bankruptcy of her tiny domain is to declare war on the United States. This satire is based on the book by Leonard Wibberley. Featuring a cast of 41 student actors and 14 technical crew members, The Mouse That Roared is a large-scale production. Lead roles include Maegan Weinhold, Collin Bollinger, Steven Gagliano, Emily Rey, Megan Deam, Jake Diestel and Margot Register. The show is being directed by John Walton, with the help of school faculty members, including Cindy Anderson, Kathy Eckinger and Douglas Kulp. Tickets for The Mouse That Roared are $5 and seating is reserved. To get tickets, call 336-1471 during school hours and ask for Walton. They can also be purchased at the door the night of the performances.

Sports news and notes

Todd Ruth Ephrata Review Sports Editor I know there is a lot of history that goes with the Hersheypark Arena, but the place wasn’t built for 47-year-old big guys. Andy Fasnacht and I were reminded of that fact once again two weeks ago while attending the District Wrestling Championships. While it s awesome to be at the same place Wilt Chamberlain set his NBA-record 100-point game, the rest of my weekend was shot thanks to the sore back I received from being squeezed into those hard, wooden seats for an eight-hour stretch. I m probably one of the few who wouldn’t mind seeing that tournament get moved to the more spacious and certainly more comfortable Giant Center.
Just sayin’… Mounts headed back to Two?: I saw an interesting post on an online site recently regarding the next phase of football re-alignment for the L-L League. According to the post, Ephrata will be headed back to Section Two in 2012. While I have yet to be able to confirm this news, the person who made the post said it was a done deal. If it s true, that would be great news for the Mounts, who struggled in their initial season in Section One, going 0-7 in league play.

Fittery claims EIWA title, NCAAs next for top ranked senior
Cocalico graduate and American University senior Steve Fittery was one of three American wrestlers to earn individual titles at the 107th EIWA Championships Sunday in Lewisburg. Fittery defeated second-seeded Bryce Saddoris of Navy 6-1 for the first EIWA title of his career in the 157-pound finals. The senior scored a takedown late in the first period and tacked on two back points for a 4-0 lead and was ahead 4-1 heading into the third. Fittery moved the score to 5-1 with an escape in the final period and held riding-time advantage for the final margin. Fittery has placed twice at the EIWA s after taking third last year. With the championship, Fittery (28-0), who has been the top ranked 157 pounder in the nation for 15 consecutive weeks, received an automatic bid into next week s NCAA Tournament to be held Mar. 17-19 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Man, it feels great to be an EIWA champion, Fittery told AUeagles.com following his championship win on Sunday. It s just exciting. It s fun to wrestle. I love it.
