Cocalico girl drop Cedars
The Cocalico girls soccer team earned its first victory of the season Tuesday with a convincing 4-1 win at Lebanon. Leading 1-0 at the half, Cocalico broke it open with three more scores down the stretch. Kathleen Lawver (two assists), Nicole Zwiercan, Shannon Hoeveler and Brittany Simmons (assist) all scored goals for Cocalico, which outshot Lebanon, 20-6 and held an 11-0 advantage in corners. Kristen Boyer made five saves to gain her first victory of the season in goal. Ephrata also was slated to be in action Tuesday at L-S but results were unavailable as of press time. Both Ephrata and Cocalico opened the season Friday afternoon with Section Two contests. At Ephrata, Janelle Frey scored a pair of goals to lift the Buckskins to a 2-0 shutout victory. CV outshot the Lady Mounts, 12-6 and held a 7-0 advantage in corners. Olivia Pfautz was busy in goal for Ephrata, registering nine saves. In Denver, visiting Manheim Central scored a 3-1 victory over Cocalico. Leading 1-0 at the half, the Barons outscored Cocalico 2-1 in the second half to pull away. Corinna Good had a pair of goals for the Barons, while Lawver had the lone Cocalico marker. Tyler Hoppman added an assist for the Lady Eagles, who were outshot 8-4 and outcornered, 4-2. Boyer registered five saves in goal for Cocalico.
